UWEC Alumni Band Weekend
Join us at UW-Eau Claire Haas Fine Arts Center - Gantner Concert Hall, Eau Claire. Register to Join the Alumni Band! Join us April 24-27, 2025, for our Alumni Band weekend as we celebrate the University Bands! The weekend will feature performances by the musicians of the Symphony Band and Wind Symphony including concerto competition winners, student conductors, along with rehearsals and performance of the UWEC Alumni Band. There will be time to connect with friends, colleagues, and UWEC faculty (past and present). Dr. Ostrander and Dr. Stewart will lead rehearsals of the Alumni Band on Saturday and Sunday to prepare for the Sunday afternoon concert. Purchase tickets for Sunday 2 p.m. concert in advance. The Singing Statesmen Spring Concert
The pinnacle for the Statesmen 2024-25 season is the Spring concert which combines the vast amount of work and dedication that this ensemble has worked for all year. An evening with Dr. Kent Syverson in Woodbury, MN
Join Dr. Syverson on Wednesday, May 7 at Ray J's, 9854 Norma Ln, Woodbury, MN from 6-8 p.m. for his presentation "My Adventures in Glacier Bay, Alaska" and refreshments and have a chance to win some Blugold swag.
Dr. Kent Syverson conducted his PhD research in Glacier Bay, Alaska, as part of the National Geographic Society’s Burroughs Glacier Expedition. In 1989-90, he spent two summers living 50 miles from the nearest human outpost in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. Syverson, who was then a young graduate student, made numerous mistakes and learned many things through hardships in the wilderness. In his presentation, Professor Syverson will tell his favorite (and humorous) adventure story excerpted from his book “Adventures in Glacier Bay,” talk about living “off the grid” in the Alaskan wilderness, briefly discuss some of his research in Glacier Bay, and reflect on life lessons learned in the backcountry. No geological background is necessary to enjoy his talk!
